Do Good Often is the philosophy by which I live my life. Instilled in me by my mother, who has lived her life by example in both word and action, I arrived at the realization that this simple directive is, for me, the foundation of happiness.
I come from a mid-western heritage, my parents both being native to Illinois. Due to my father’s job, my family moved around quite often during my childhood and it was my mother who made each move and new beginning a bit easier for all of us. In each new town my mother ensured we were involved in our local church and town activities, because we didn’t have the luxury of having family nearby. Somehow, those connections always made each new location feel more like home– the comfort of familiar surroundings and activities taking the sting out of being “the new kid”. I have learned so much from what my mother did and said during those times of transition, and one of her life lessons has prompted me to begin this blog.
My mother always said that we never know the full consequence of our actions or how far reaching our actions are. Like the ripples created by a pebble thrown into water, the consequences of our actions radiate far out and onward from our initial action. She cautioned us to be careful with the pebbles we threw in life, starting with our thoughts and intentions. And so, I began to make choices about the ripples I caused~ and decided that doing good would be the best focus of a life well lived. It is my mantra, my focus, my guide.
I hope to provide inspiration on this site, so that you too will choose to live a life of positive action and fulfillment.
Do good, be well.
